In the Right Place at the Right Time
A Study of Esther
Chapter 1
Sunday, April 3, 2022
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
It’s sort of a Cinderella story. Esther is a beautiful Jewish girl who is chosen to be Queen of Persia. But who is doing the choosing here? Esther does not even mention the name of God. Yet, God is the main character in Esther working behind the scenes bringing about His desired end. God can be seen by those who understand the Doctrine of God’s Providence.
Sermon in a Sentence: God is at work in the details of our lives; rest in His providence.
1:1-9 A King with an Overinflated Ego
Ahasuerus is the same as Xerxes.
Xerxes’ empire stretched from India to Ethiopia.
1:10-12 A Queen with a Courageous Countenance
Vashti refuses to be the King’s living trophy.
She is a noble woman who exposes the giant ego of the King.
1:19-22 A Mysterious Turn of Events
Thoroughly inebriated, Xerxes goes along with poor advice.
Using even the dysfunctional decisions of man, God directs people to achieve His purposes.
