There is providence plastered all over of the pages of Esther 2. In vv1-4 the odds were against Esther, but God was working out the details. In vv5-11 Esther and Mordecai are transplants from Jerusalem but God was working out the details. In vv15-18 Esther was winning everyone’s favor because God was working in the details! Because God is at work in the details of our lives, we can rest in His providence.
There are three movements in this chapter worth highlighting:
2:1-4 Let’s Host A Pageant!
The scouts are dispatched to find beautiful women in 127 counties.
This was not the way a Persian queen was normally chosen.
2:5-11 An Unusual Set of Circumstances
V6 An unusual uprooting
V7 An unusual upbringing.
2:15-18 Something About Esther
Teaching moment: Do not read things into a Bible text that God did not put there.
You can make a text say whatever you want it to, yet, God has one intended meaning. That meaning is what we are after!
