Take-Away’s from Revelation 4, An Inspiring Visit to the Throne Room

Main Idea: Seated on His throne in absolute sovereignty, our Majesty receives the boisterous praise He deserves; worship Him in the Spirit.

Rev. 4 is the antithesis of Rev. 3:14-22. Lukewarm worship is an insult to God. Boisterous praise exalts the Lord and ascribes worthy words of adoration in Heaven. We are to be rehearsing down here the way the Cherubim and 24 elders are worshiping up there.

Unlike present-day authors, John is unable to describe what he sees in Heaven. Moreover, when Paul was caught up to Heaven, he said he saw things that cannot be told, nor should be uttered by man. You have all things necessary to know about Heaven in the Bible.

The pastor said the 24 elders represent all of sinful man redeemed by God who patiently endure the adversities and tribulations of a person called by God. 12 tribes of Israel (old covenant believers) and 12 apostles (new covenant believers). The crowns and white garments give away their identity.

In Rev 4:6b-11 the Cherubim, full of eyes all around, are watchers and protectors. They are also seen here as leading the heavenly worship choruses found in v8 and v11. Keith Getty once said, “We ought to be asking one another every Sunday, ‘How was the singing today?’”

The Life Application comes from listening to the two groups of worshipers. They exhibit the kind of worship that pleases the One on the throne; IE: the how-to’s of worship. Congregational singing blesses God and edifies the Church.
