In Joshua 7 tragedy strikes. After the battle of Jericho one man named Achan sinned and his actions effected the whole nation. For one man’s sin the whole nation lost the battle at Ai. Nevertheless, we should be thankful that God put this story here so that the Holy Spirit can teach us the way out of our sinful dilemmas.
Scene 1: Let’s Blame God Again! 7:2-9
“Why did You let this happen, God?”
“How can I make You look better, God?”
“What will you do about Your name, God?”
Scene 2: The Sinfulness of Sin. 7:10-13
“My will is perverse and rebellious; all my affections are out of order. There is nothing whole or sound within me.” Robert Bolten-
“I will not be with you.”
Scene 3: I Saw It, I Took It, I Hid It. 7:16-21
Joshua had to wring it out of Achan.
No remorse, no words of repentance.
Scene 4: The Consequences of Sin. 7:25-26
The devastating consequences of sin.
One man’s sin infected the whole nation.
Sermon in A Sentence: Sin will bring you more trouble than you want. But there is a way out.
