If you are just joining us we are in a study of the first letter of John. John was an apostle of Jesus. He is probably very old by the time of this writing. He was a pastor who was passionately concerned about his church. People in his church claimed to have special knowledge, some revolutionary ideas about Jesus. They were called Gnostics. John calls them antichrists. This chapter warns the church against devils and distractions that can rob us of our eternal assurance.
