Take-Away’s from Revelation 3:1-6, Wake Up Church.
Main Idea: God wants you to grow and to change; wake up out of your spiritual slumber.
Sardis was built on an acropolis, a natural citadel, out of reach from the enemy. Remembering their city’s history, what reason did the pastor give for Jesus commanding the church there to “Wake up”, and “If you don’t wake up, I will come like a thief”?
This letter to Sardis demonstrates the cold shower reality that there are walking dead in every church of every age. Can you think of a few examples in a local church that indicate a dead church? (Hints: love, joy, emotion, the Gospel, evangelism, maturity).
In 3:1 the pastor sees the seven spirits of God as the ____________ _____________.
“Thinking I deserve Heaven is a sure sign I have no understanding of the Gospel.” Sinclair Ferguson-
Jesus offered church members the Holy Spirit because some of them were dead. They had not experienced the new birth, the radical new birth. Before we are saved everything about us is corrupted, p____________ by sin; our m_________, our b________, and our w_________. This is called T___________ D____________. Conversely then, the new birth radically transforms everything about us from the inside out. The Spirit gives us new wills for which to call upon Christ to save us. He gives us new minds and new hearts too. Volume One of your life is closed; Volume Two opens and introduces the world to the new you. There is now a new Master! This is why Paul calls us “new creations in Christ Jesus” in 2 Co. 5:17.
What did Jesus mean in 3:5, “I will never blot his name out of the Book of Life”?
Main Idea: God wants you to grow and to change; wake up out of your spiritual slumber.
