Let Us Pray
James 5:13-20
Sunday, May 19, 2024
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Prayer is certainly the theme of these verse. It is mentioned in every verse but 19 and 20. I like to think that James now shows us the proper and righteous use of the tongue. The Church has enormous privilege in prayer. We are to pray for each other when we suffer, when we are well, and even confess our sins to each other and pray. These motives to pray are to arouse our faith and spark revival in the church. God still acts in supernatural ways, so we should pray.
Sermon in a Sentence: Because God still acts in supernatural ways, we should arouse our faith and pray.
5:13-15 Call for the Elders

5:16-18 Confess Your Sins
Private sins privately.
This can turn out to be a great benefit to the entire church.
5:19-20 Call Each Other Back
This is evidence of useful faith.
We should speak graciously but truthfully to members who wander.
